Our swift pair raised two young in one of our nestboxes; the young left around 31st July, two birds (presumably adults) roosted overnight in the nestbox on the nights of 1st and 2nd August; one bird roosted on the night of 3rd and 4th August, which was the last sighting.

Taken down by a Sparrowhawk right in front of me. The hawk saw me and flew off, the Swift managed to get airborne from the ground in quite a tight enclosed area and survived to live another day! .

Numbers flying overhead have been quite low lately but my swift box continues to get regular visits. I decided to camp out in our back garden this afternoon to log those visits - a swift entered the box at 16:55 for several minutes before flying off and then returned literally every 45 minutes, i.e. 17:40, 18:25 and 19:10 (I'm assuming it was the same one). I finally managed to get a decent shot of it poking its head out of the box before flying off at 18:31, which I will upload to the gallery. I'm amazed at its metronomic timekeeping today! SU362127.
