Nocturnal : An incredible encounter as I drove towards the car park for a vis-mig session. I was near the S bend between Ivinghoe Beacon and Steps Hill when I saw a bird fly in and land in the road ahead of me, as I approached I was amazed to see a Woodcock looking back at me. It took off and flew up the road in front of me and onto Steps Hill. My first ever record here in over 25 years of watching this site.

16:00
My first ever local sighting (nearest before was at Stoke Common). I think as I approached, it tried to creep away into scrub but it met a fence and started to flap against it, before breaking free of the surrounding vegetation (the flapping sounded like a Wood Pigeon). It flew low along the hedge as I got my bins on it, before flicking right through the hedge line and out of sight. It's made my day! Please note this is a private site.
