Initially found what I thought was a female, 70 minutes later after Stewart arrives, a nice male lands at the top of an Ash giving good, but brief views, 30 minutes after this Stewart finds an immature male in the Hawthorn Bush that all the interesting migrants here seem to use. On examining our photos I had misidentified the first bird as a female, it being an immature male, presumably same bird that Stewart saw. Seen with Stewart Dennis.

They're flooding in ! 4 birds in or around the small triangular field as detailed on the 5th. The adult male and 2 juveniles now have a moulting adult female with them. I suspect that this is an entire family group. 2 further adult males elsewhere. Some photo'd. Early mornings are best, especially in this heat.

male + juv. Moulting adult male with no doubt one of his fledged youngsters. Both viewable from a footpath. Park sensibly in the first part of Bennetts Lane allowing for farm machinery/ horse boxes, use the grass verges where you can. Take the footpath at the end of the lane straight ahead- due East, stay at the bottom of the field and cross it through the 'gate' into a small triangular field. The birds are in the left hand hedge in this field towards the far end.

The long staying and heavily in moult adult male found by N.Webber still on the fenceline near the S bend. 2 more elusive birds were on the Ringshall slope, one of these looked like an adult female, the other possibly a juvenile male, but views not good ! One of these was extremely vocal early morning and at one point they were calling to each other. It could easily be a female with her fledged youngster.

male. It might be midsummer's day, but my ornithological autumn starts with a male Redstart in almost full breeding plumage. Along the fence line below the 'S' bend, in-between the two 'kissing' gates. After showing well for several minutes, it retreated into the scrub.

male. A cracking male found early morning on the usual fence from the S bend to the Beacon. It rapidly moved north along the fence before settling in bushes on the south-east slope of the Beacon, although it did disappear for periods. Subsequently seen by a number of other birders.
