I watched from 3pm after one lot of rain until 4.45 when the next was imminent. A modest movement West at first became a flood of Swallows with lesser numbers of House & Sand Martins, with great congregations over the sea. Two thousand would be a very conservative estimate. One House Martin that had me baffled at first was nearly all dark, with the rump only just discernable as mottled grey, and the underparts all dusky, no pure white at all, melanism I presume.
