| Alone on CSP. Facing east towards Horsea Island, trying to photograph a CR Mediterranean gull. Wader flies fast south to north about 15 m away. Thought process immediately based on common birds on CSP, redshank (no - too big), curlew/whimbrel (no - streaky brown back but black trailing edge and white stripe on wing), bar/black tailed godwit (no - short beak), then I saw the head including beak and eye. Definitely a stone-curlew. Lowered my binoculars, raised my camera, a father with two daughters stopped right in front on me to ask if I was looking at birds! Last seen following the sea wall and going north. |
