Roosting next to each other amongst flooded reeds and rushes on south east side of lake. Found at sunset and remained until I left, mostly hunkered down but occasionally looking to sky as if ready to depart. No access to private site but SF can be viewed from Deacon Hill right to roam land to south. Best viewpoint is by fence at approx 51.046669 , -1.2975535. Deacon Hill can be accessed via kissing gate at west end or east end by layby. A few parking spaces in drive where Morestead Road bends (51.047219 , -1.3024834, do not block gate) and a couple more in laybys further east. Otherwise nearest parking is St Catherine's Park and Ride, c10 minutes walk, go south up track, across motorway bridge then back down to Morestead Road. Please do not attempt to access sewage works, herons would not have been visible from there anyway. No access to private site; view only from Morestead Road at c.SU495275.
