male. WORTH CHECKING OUT ..... I have had a report of a male Stonechat with plumage suggesting possibly CASPIAN STONECHAT or another non-UK form. Note this is only a suggestion and not confirmed. The observation was TWO days ago. My friends wrote "The bird had a very glossy looking black head with a white collar that nearly went all the way round. There was a thin clearly defined black stripe dissecting the collar on the very back of the head. The bird had a very small peachy bib and the rest of the chest around it and continuing underneath the bird to the base of its tail was pure white. There were very distinguished white wing bars which stood out due to the black colouring of the back. There was another patch of white at the base of the tail which on the outer edge appeared to thinly run down both sides of the tail. In flight the white reached 50 to 75% of the tail except for black indentation in the middle from the bottom to about a quarter of the way up. The under wing that we could see was pale but only the under the wingtips were really seen as it was hard to get a good view as it was flitting about in the gorse. The whole bird looked a striking black and white apart from the small bib. The black and white stood out much more when it has its back turned to us." Worth checking out I think. SU177092.
