17/10/14StonechatTitchfield Haven20D J Ryves
while searching for YBW I was shown a picture of a possible male Siberian Stonechat taken earlier from the Knights Bank hide. I could only find 1 Common Stonechat from there but from the Meadow Hide there were at least 15 Stonechats in various plumage. 1 fem/juv was distinctly paler than all the others and at first remained away from the rest favouring the left hand corner close to the reeds and scrub. Although elusive at first it did show better eventually. It was distinctly sandier and less marked and appeared when hovering to have an unmarked rusty rump. At the time I concluded that it was just a pale juv common and had no reference with me but subsequent research has put doubt in my mind, although the odds of finding a second Sibe while looking for a reported male seem a little remote, it may be worth others checking the Stonechats at Titchfield this weekend. Subsequent research and photos from another source have confirmed my original thoughts that this bird is a good candidate for Sibe and was mistaken in believing the reported possible Sibe was a male as mine looks good for a fem/1st winter Siberian Stonechat which hopefully will be confirmed.
