The long-staying female-type still present on the Flood Alleviation Pool. Facial disc/pale area has now moulted out to all dark, leaving a pale eye-ring and a typical pale loral spot. Plumage typically dark (not pale or cinammon), with dark chocolate-scalloped sides and flanks and bill size typical and well within normal variation of this Nearctic duck.

28/03/22 | BLUE-WINGED TEAL | Marlow Low Grounds | 1 | L Evans |
18:00 | fem. Found by David Bevan at about 3pm. A female-type with an unusually extensive pale loral and facial area but not outside of the variation of this species. Nothing to suggest a Shoveler hybrid, of which many have previously been recorded in the UK. A semi eye-ring present, dark brown forehead and crown, nice scalloped chocolate-brown flank and sides and extensive pale blue forewing. Yellow leg colour very dull suggesting first year. Very difficult to separate from Cinnamon Teal but plumage markedly paler and greyer. A superb find and a first for the county.
28/03/22 | BLUE-WINGED TEAL | Marlow Low Grounds | 1 | J E Rose |
