The female-type still present and showing well. Has Shoveler genes in its heritage but hardly surprising the amount of hybridisation between these two species in North America. Has remnants of the white facial disc on one side of the face only.

The long-staying female-type still present on the Flood Alleviation Pool. Facial disc/pale area has now moulted out to all dark, leaving a pale eye-ring and a typical pale loral spot. Plumage typically dark (not pale or cinammon), with dark chocolate-scalloped sides and flanks and bill size typical and well within normal variation of this Nearctic duck.

The female found by the mighty David Bevan still present till dusk.
28/03/22BLUE-WINGED TEALMarlow Low Grounds1L Evans
18:00
fem. Found by David Bevan at about 3pm. A female-type with an unusually extensive pale loral and facial area but not outside of the variation of this species. Nothing to suggest a Shoveler hybrid, of which many have previously been recorded in the UK. A semi eye-ring present, dark brown forehead and crown, nice scalloped chocolate-brown flank and sides and extensive pale blue forewing. Yellow leg colour very dull suggesting first year. Very difficult to separate from Cinnamon Teal but plumage markedly paler and greyer. A superb find and a first for the county.

Found by David Bevan mid afternoon, the bird stayed until dusk allowing quite a few birders to see it. If accepted a county first. See my video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULF2yi0TmNc.
