juv. Astonishing views of the Little Crake after it was spotted by Mike Wallen emerging from the reeds to the left of Otter Hide just after dawn. Seen in the company of many other birders - what a stunning bird for Linford Lakes! Thanks to the finder Ken Sargeant, Mike Wallen and Simon for the news and the opportunity to watch this bird foraging amongst the reeds so close to the hide.

Juvenile bird. Had to wait about an hour, before it was found in the reeds directly in front of the hide, where I managed to obtain excellent views. Took many photos and a few videos. Needless to say, a lifer and a brilliant county tick! Last seen flying into the reeds to the left of the hide, where I guess it will roost for the night. Many thanks to the original finder, the volunteers on the entrance gate and the kind birder who got me on the bird in the end after everyone else had connected with it. Wouldn't have successfully twitched a cracking bird for Bucks otherwise! Please note that a permit is required for access to this site.

juv. The fantastic first for Bucks showed from this time, then on and off for the rest of the day. Many Thanks to the finder Ken Sargent, for not just the find, but also for getting in touch so promptly yesterday.

juv. Photographed by Ken Sarjent yesterday morning and identified on Facebook after he placed an excellent image of it asking for help. Mike Wallen first picked it up as it appeared from the left of the Near (Otter) Hide at 0650 hours and then it continued to show very well, traversing the reeds in front of the hide until 0745. It then disappeared for over two hours and I was worried it had been taken by a Sparrowhawk. Thankfully it then reappeared and showed again for 10 minutes. It then followed a similar feeding circuit into the afternoon and after another two hour sojourn, then got far more adventurous and moved out into the outer reedbed and much deeper water. We watched it swim between the reedbeds. It was then lost but later reappeared right in front of the hide again towards dusk. Thanks to Simon and Paul manning the main gate and later a volunteer from the Parks Trust, a highly successful twitch with a total of 94 twitchers visiting by nightfall. My first new county bird of this year and a very unexpected one. Lots of great photographs taken (see Rob Hill/Paul Gibbs) and a lot of happy people. A typical juvenile on plumage.

Watched from the Otter hide for 10mins or so but had to wait for an hour or so for it to appear. Thanks to the finder. A Bucks first and an amazing bird for Bucks. Entry to the site is being controlled by local volunteers with details on social media.
