First bird was spotted by Stewart, which was then joined by a second bird. In a separate area five were together flycatching from trees & bushes. At one point three were in a tree alongside two male Blackcaps & a Willow Warbler. Checking my video footage at home, one can be seen coughing up a pellet, stills in photo gallery. Minimum count including at least 5 juveniles around the clearfell area. We watched a family group of 6 birds move through the trees away from us then at least 2 more appeared from behind. Could easily have been more as very vocal with young calling for food but difficult to count in the tops of trees. A nice surprise as we thought they might have failed.

While scanning for the Crossbills a pair of Spotted Flycatchers appeared in a pine. After a few minutes of fly catching, including landing on the ground they made a couple of visits with food to presumed nest quite high in another pine. Another adult close by was also interacting a bit with the pair so possibly another territory.
