| 14:46 | Whilst watching a flock of Goldfinch and Linnet the merlin zoomed in and tried several attempts at catching the passerines but without success. It left as quickly as it had arrived. Slightly against the light so no discernable colour but, judging by the small size of the bird I would say a male. | |||

| 12:00 | ad m. Flying at 50ft over W gas-field - very unusual in my experience for a Merlin. It also had a shining white underside when it caught the sun - also unusual. Flew with a flexible wing-beat. Otherwise it was the size, shape and colour of a male Merlin. | |||
