11:20	Counted a flock of around 100 as they flew out of birches on the east edge of the heath and these were immediately followed and joined by a similar flock as they all headed noisily across the border into Kings Wood NNR. 09:30	After a very quiet walk around Rushmere with almost no finches, I stumbled across the largest local flock of Redpolls for years amongst the silver birches at the top of the heath. Typically very mobile and impossible to count accurately, this is a conservative estimate. Some gorgeous bright males, but no 'Mealys' apparent. A few Siskins and Goldfinches too.

	male and fem. My first Redpolls for the Tattenhoe area this year, spotted resting, preening and giving some sub-song in a willow for a little while before eventually heading to the northeast. Male had a strikingly red breast.
